In these conditions, 6 wire spiral hoses generally offer better fatigue resistance and longer service life because the additional reinforcement layers distribute internal pressure more effectively.
However, higher reinforcement does not automatically mean better performance for every application. A 6 wire hose is usually heavier, stiffer, and has a larger minimum bend radius. In compact hydraulic systems with limited installation space, a 4 wire spiral hose may actually provide better installation efficiency and easier routing. Excessively stiff hoses can also increase stress on fittings and connections if improper installation occurs.
Cost is another important consideration. Due to higher material usage and more complex manufacturing processes, 6 wire spiral hoses are generally more expensive than 4 wire hoses. For systems that do not require ultra-high pressure resistance, selecting a 4 wire hose often provides a more balanced solution between performance, flexibility, and overall operating cost.
In real industrial applications, hose selection should always be based on actual working conditions, including operating pressure, impulse frequency, temperature, bend radius requirements, environmental conditions, and equipment movement. Choosing a hose solely based on “higher pressure” can sometimes lead to unnecessary costs and reduced installation efficiency.
