The Real Difference Between 4SP and 4SH Under High-Frequency Pressure Pulses

This article explains why higher pressure ratings do not automatically translate into longer hose life under high-frequency pressure pulses. Although both 4SP and 4SH are four-wire spiral hoses, their structural behavior under dynamic loading differs significantly. In pulsation-dominated systems, fatigue is driven by repeated radial expansion, vibration, and bending rather than peak pressure. The stiffer structure of 4SH concentrates stress at the wire–rubber interface, accelerating fatigue under rapid cycling. By contrast, 4SP’s more compact and flexible construction better distributes pulsation energy, often resulting in longer and more stable service life in mobile and high-cycle hydraulic applications.
